PDF Tool for Mac
================

Which download?
  - Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 and later): PDF-Tool-<version>-mac-apple-silicon.zip
  - Older Intel Macs: PDF-Tool-<version>-mac-intel.zip
Not sure? Apple menu > About This Mac: "Chip: Apple M..." means Apple Silicon.

Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. macOS 15 or later is officially supported.

Install
  1. Double-click the zip to unpack it. You'll get "PDF Tool.app".
  2. Drag "PDF Tool.app" into your Applications folder.
  3. The first time only, macOS blocks it because it isn't from the App Store or
signed by a registered Apple developer. To allow it, open Terminal and run:

         xattr -cr "/Applications/PDF Tool.app"

     then open PDF Tool normally.

(Instead of Terminal: try to open it, click Done, then go to
System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down and click "Open Anyway".
If macOS says the app is "damaged", use the Terminal command above.)

Opening PDFs
Right-click a PDF > Open With > PDF Tool, or drag a PDF onto the window or Dock icon.

Shortcuts use Cmd where Windows uses Ctrl (e.g. Cmd+O to open, Cmd+S to save).
Full screen reader: Cmd+L or Ctrl+Cmd+F. Delete removes selected pages or markups.

Uninstall
Drag "PDF Tool.app" from Applications to the Bin.
Preferences are in ~/.config/PdfTool (safe to delete).
